Say Goodbye To Pink Eye Naturally: How To Use My Effective Home Remedy

Pink eye! A nuisance of a thing, but something us mothers are all too friendly with! Being a mom, it’s just part and parcel you will deal with pink eye at some stage. My son has had it on two occasions. Both times I didn’t take him to the doctor, both times I could treat his pink eye naturally at home.

What is pink eye?

Pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis, is a common eye infection that results in inflammation or swelling of the conjunctiva, which covers the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. This condition can be caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens, or irritants and is characterized by symptoms such as redness, itching, tearing, and discharge from the eyes.

Pink eye can be highly contagious and is often spread through contact, so it’s best to keep your children at home to alleviate the risk of passing it on to other kids. While most cases of pink eye are not serious and can be treated with home remedies, severe or persistent symptoms may require medical attention.

What are the symptoms of pink eye?

Common symptoms of pink eye may include:

  • Red or pink color in the white of the eye
  • Yellow eye goop and sealed eyelids upon waking
  • Itchiness or burning sensation
  • Excessive tearing or discharge
  • Swelling of the eyelids
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Blurred vision

Note: Pink eye can affect one or both eyes. I start with treating the infected eye, but if the other one looks remotely irritated, I begin the treatment in both eyes. It’s super easy to spread from one eye to the next, especially when you’re dealing with little hands rubbing their eyes!

My protocol to heal pink eye naturally

Below is how I heal pink eye naturally at home. It has worked successfully for me on the couple of occasions that my son has had pink eye. Both times, his infection cleared in a matter of days.

Colloidal silver to the rescue!

Colloidal silver is something I always have on hand and it is my go-to for curing pink eye naturally at home! Colloidal silver is a suspension of tiny silver particles in liquid. It has been used historically as a disinfectant and antibacterial agent, and some people still use it today for various medical purposes. It is believed to work by disrupting the metabolism of bacterial cells and can be taken orally or applied topically.

To use colloidal silver drops, I use a concentration of 10ppm:

  • Apply 2 drops into the eye
  • Repeat 4 x a day. (I usually do the first dose upon rising, second dose late morning/prior to his afternoon nap, third dose upon rising after nap, fourth dose prior to bed.)

Note: I also like to take a warm compress to gently wipe the eye goop away prior to administering the drops.

Echinacea tincture

I also add about 4 drops of echinacea tincture to his water bottle throughout the day to help boost and stimulate his immune system.

Other tips

  • Wash and change towels at the end of the day
  • Wash pillowcases after each sleep
  • Although most cases will clear up at home in a few days, if you have persistent symptoms or seem to get worse, you should contact your doctor
