Natural Cold Remedy Tea

My natural cold remedy tea aka witch’s brew.

This has been in staple in my family for years now when one of us gets run down with a cold. I have shared the recipe many times with family and friends, and they have dubbed it my “witch’s brew recipe”. Most likely because it’s as if you are filling a cauldron with a bunch of unassuming, uncomplimentary ingredients, but on the contrary, they blend beautifully together and pack a punch during times of illness. After being infused it magically turns into a brilliant yellow colour from the ingredients.

Healing Ingredients

I packed my natural cold remedy tea full of nutritious ingredients.

Lemon

Not only do lemons give you a healthy dose of Vitamin C, but they also contain phytonutrients that help your body ward off disease with their antioxidant properties.

Onions

We have used onions as a holistic remedy since the 16th century. Packed with flavonoids and antioxidants, onions are antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antiviral. They also make a great expectorant by loosening up phlegm.

Garlic

Garlic has been known and used for centuries to ward off colds and infections. Adding garlic to your diet can help maintain your respiratory health and can help give your immune system an added boost.

Turmeric

Turmeric has both anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown turmeric to exert an antihistamine-like effect on the body, which makes it a great potential treatment for colds and flu.

Ginger

There is nothing more nourishing to me than a warm cup of ginger tea when I am sick. Hence why it is one of the ingredients I have added to this broth. Not only does it taste delicious, but it also helps relieve symptoms of a cold and can help soothe a sore throat.

At the onset of feeling a scratchy throat, runny nose or cough-drinking, this will help reduce symptoms and will speed up your recovery. It is highly potent with antibacterial ingredients that are sure to help boost your immune response. I take it at the start of feeling run down when I can feel an illness creeping up and I continue to drink it multiple times a day for a few days until I am back fighting fit. It tastes similar to a broth, just more citrusy and sweet with the added honey. I find it beyond nourishing in times of sickness.

Natural Cough Remedy Tea

My cold remedy tea is full of nutritious and healing ingredients to help speed up recovery from the common cold and flu. Enjoy a few cups a day to nurse yourself back to optimal health.

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 brown onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 inch fresh ginger sliced
  • 1 inch fresh turmeric root sliced
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  • Smash the garlic with the side of a knife and allow it to sit for 10 minutes to allow it to activate its medicinal components. If you heat garlic before allowing it to sit for 10 minutes, you will lose most of its health benefits.
  • While the garlic is activating, cut the lemon in half and juice both sides. Once done, place the juice and lemon halves into a medium saucepan.
  • Peel and cut the onion in half.
  • Finely slice the turmeric and ginger.
  • Combine all ingredients into the saucepan and allow water to boil until onion becomes translucent-about 10-15 minutes.
  • Strain and serve in a teacup. If you wish, you can add raw honey (try to source locally). Enjoy multiple cups a day during sickness.
