I mean, who doesn’t love tacos? In our house we have taco night once a week. It’s a hit with everyone. Once I started eating meat, I wanted to incorporate beef into our taco nights to compliment our veggies, so after lots of trial and error, this delicious ground beef for tacos recipe was born.
It’s an authentic blend consisting of homemade spices, organic ground beef, and beans to add an extra element. Not only is it a hit with adults, but children love it too!
Homemade taco seasoning
Making taco seasoning from scratch is easy and not only is it cheaper than store-bought taco seasoning, it’s also healthier as there are no additives or preservatives in it. Since I am making this kid friendly, it doesn’t have a spicy note, so you can also add smokey paprika, crushed pepper, or chili to give it some heat.
Toppings for tacos
I like to keeping toppings simple and fresh for our family taco nights, focusing on produce that’s in season. Pretty much anything goes well with this ground beef for tacos recipe. Some of our favourites are:
Fresh rocket or kale
Homemade guacamole
Shredded cheddar cheese
Red onions
Capsicum
Jalapeños
Yogurt
Fresh coriander
Tailor it to your taste and likings. Have it be an interactive dinner by setting up a buffet so everyone can dress their taco how they like!
Delicious Ground Beef for Tacos
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 brown onion chopped
- 2 garlic cloves chopped
- 500 g ground beef organic, grass-fed
- 3 tsp cumin
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp corriander
- 1/4 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp
vegetable bouillon - 1 tsp salt
- 2 cans of crushed tomatoes (15 ounces each)
- 2 cans of beans (15 ounces each) drained. I like to use kidney beans but black beans work well to!
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat
- Cook the onions and garlic until fragrant about 2-3 min
- Add the ground beef and cook till it is browned and crumbly
- Add all the spices and stir through
- Combine the tomatoes and drained beans and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce to a low heat and simmer for about 30-40min with the lid partially on and stirring occasionally. You want some of the sauce to reduce so it's nice and thick.
- Serve on top of home cooked tacos and dress with a blend of veggies, guacamole, yogurt and cheese!
